Music City - Nashville Tennessee

I was down in Nashville last month with my friend and drummer David Mihal doing some Songs of the Southern Belles business. What a fantastic city and music centre.

Dave is now a permanent member of our country musical tribute show Songs of the Southern Belles and is not only a great drummer and musician but also brings a lot of experience in the music business.

We not only got some business done and made some great contacts but we were also able to hear some fantastic music. The Time Jumpers at 3rd and Lindsley was such a great night. The band is made up of Nashville music veterans like Paul Franklin on pedal steel and Vince Gill on guitar and vocals as well as everyone else in the band. They play old country swing and it's so well played.

Dave and I got a chance to hang with Vince Gill during the break. What a great guy.

I also got a chance to hang out and play some guitar with two of Nashville's greats Brent Mason and Guthrie Trapp. I've known Brent for about 6 years now and just recently met Guthrie. Both top drawer guitar players and really great guys.

There is a club on Broadway that features traditional country music only (which is great) and every Weds through Saturday The Don Kelly Band plays. Don Kelly is famous for searching out the monster up and coming tele players and featuring them in his band. He obviously has a knack for it as greats like Brent Mason, Guthrie Trapp, Johnny Hiland, Daniel Donato and currently Luke McCreary. Wow this kid (19) can play! Such maturity and incredible chops.

I must say that the town is a Telecaster town for sure and a Martin and Gibson acoustic town for the most part. I saw some Strat players , a couple of Gibson Les Paul players and one PRS player but Teles are definitely still the mainstay.

I definitely plan to go back soon.

That's all for now.
